MLPA Lends Support to Proposition D
The Missouri Limestone Producers Association (MLPA) is extending the organization’s support to Proposition D on the November 6, 2018 ballot.
Proposition D would increase motor fuel highway fees by 2.5 cents per gallon per year for four years, starting July 1, 2019. After 4 years, the total increase would be 10 cents per gallon.
“Transportation infrastructure funding in the State of Missouri is reaching a crisis situation,” said Morgan Mundell, Executive Manager of the MLPA. “Our current motor fuel tax is 19 cents per gallon, one of the lowest in the nation. But that was set in 1996. Over the past 20 years, inflation has eroded the purchasing power of the 17-cents-per-gallon tax to only 8 cents today. MoDOT cannot properly address Missouri’s needs in terms of safety, road and bridge maintenance and new construction with a budget that is constantly shrinking.”
The ballot initiative would increase funding to the State Road Fund, which supports the Missouri Highway Patrol and other state and local road and bridge improvement projects.
“Missourians deserve a safe transportation system that allows them to travel the state. Voting yes on Proposition D is making in investment in Missouri’s economy by promoting economic growth, supporting the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges and ensuring the Missouri Highway Patrol has the resources to provide safety services to Missouri citizens as they utilize the state’s transportation system,” said Mundell.
