Fun Facts About Limestone

Limestone’s unique physical and chemical properties allow it to have many uses. Hundreds of beautiful, historic structures in Missouri were built with it, including Daniel Boone’s home, the Old St. Louis Cathedral near the Arch, and even the State Capitol Building! Today, it has extensive use as one of the raw materials in Portland cement. Specialty uses include the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, toothpaste, paint, paper, caulking and glass. Common antacids are virtually 100% finely-ground limestone. Farmers use limestone to neutralize acidity in their soils. Counties use crushed limestone to provide an all-weather driving surface on unpaved roads. However, it’s most commonly used as construction aggregate.

Infra Scholarship Foundation

Infra members have the opportunity of providing an additional benefit for your employees through Infra’s Scholarship Foundation. The Infra Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships exclusively to the children of employees of Infra Producer, Affiliate, and Associate Members. If your company also operates concrete plants, asphalt plants, or other types of businesses, at least 50% of the employee’s time must be dedicated to the company’s quarry business for their child to be eligible.

Students attending two-year and four-year colleges or trade schools are eligible for these scholarships. The scholarships are a one-time disbursement and will be awarded once proof of enrollment is received from the chosen recipients.

The 2025 scholarship recipients have been chosen. Applications for students graduating high school in the spring of 2026 will be available in January 2026.
